A 17TH Century Rural Retreat

Nestled between the pyrenees and the costa brava

Welcome

Can Patrona is a  charming rural house dating from the 17th Century. it has an interesting history having been the country residence of a Carlist General, where it is rumoured he kept his mistress!! It was originally built in the 17c and has been added to and modernised over the years. Interestingly there is a story that a chest of gold is buried somewhere on the property, although in 15 years of searching we have not found it(yet).

Lovingly restored in the 1990's  by a well-known Catalan designer, it offers comfort and cosiness with all the conveniences of modern life. Situated on the edge of the Garrotxa area, famous for its scenery and volcanos, it lies on the outskirts of the ancient village of Serinyà. Both mountains and coast are easily accessible, being within 35 minutes drive. The region abounds with picturesque villages, ancient monasteries, medieval churches, and extinct volcanoes, yet is only an hour away from Barcelona by car, with all its restaurants, theatres, museums, art galleries and of course shopping.

Beaches

The nearest beach is at St Marti D’Empuries

just 35 minutes away by car. Whilst you are there walk along the beach to the ruins of the ancient Greek and Roman port, stunningly restored and very interesting.

The little fishing port of Callela has nice beaches in the town with restaurants along the seafront.

Begur is another favourite, with the little village of Tamariu just along the coast.

Tossa del Mar has the only surviving walled village in Catalonia, good seafood and a nice harbour.

Many rivers have wild swimming areas, try going from Girona to St Gregori and follow the river to the rocky outcrop seen above on the left.

There is a lovely public swimming pool in the little village of Maia, ten minutes away on the roadto Figueres.
